Lost in UVCE? A Complete Guide to Finding Labs and Classrooms at KR Circle

 Walking into University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) for the first time feels like stepping into history. Established in 1917 by Sir M. Visvesvaraya, the KR Circle campus is an architectural marvel. However, its sprawling heritage structure, with its endless corridors and multiple blocks, can quickly become a maze for freshers and visitors.

If you have ever found yourself wandering the quadrangle looking for "Room 211" or the "Chemistry Lab," this guide is for you.

Understanding the Layout: The Quadrangle & Parks

The heart of the KR Circle campus is the Main Quadrangle. This square open space is surrounded by the main building on all four sides.

The "Minchu" & Rock Garden

While the central area of the quadrangle is known as Minchu, the main spot where students relax is the Rock Garden.

• The Vibe: It’s the social hub of the college.

• Food: The famous Nandini outlet (our de-facto canteen) is located right here inside the Rock Garden. It’s the perfect place to grab a snack between classes.

Finding Your Department

Unlike modern colleges with labeled blocks (e.g., "Block A"), UVCE relies on specific building locations. Here is where each department is actually located:

CSE & ECE

These departments are located within the Main Block (the quadrangle building). You generally access them via the main staircases. The labs and classrooms are spread across the upper floors.

Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical department is not in the main quadrangle building.

• Location: It is situated in a separate building across the road from the main campus. You will need to exit the main gate and cross over to reach the Mechanical block workshops and classrooms.

Electrical & Electronics (EEE)

This department has its own dedicated space.

• Location: Look for the separate building at the rear end of the campus. It houses the AC/DC Machines labs on the ground floor and classrooms above.

Civil Engineering & Architecture

• Location: These departments are primarily located at the Jnanabharathi (JB) Campus, not KR Circle. If you are a 1st-year Civil student, check your timetable—you might have classes at KR Circle, but the core department is at JB.

Key Facilities You Need to Know

1. The Library

The UVCE Library is a treasure trove of engineering books.

• Location: It is located behind Minchu (the central quadrangle area).

• Tip: You need a library card to borrow books. Apply for one at the counter during your first year.

2. The Placement Office (TPO)

The Training and Placement Office is the busiest spot during the final year. It is located on the Ground Floor of the main block. Look for the notice board buzzing with students.
