Why I Chose UVCE Over MSRIT & BMSCE: A Student's Honest Review
The Best Return Of Investment is Actually HERE
Yes, you read that right.
I’m giving you the complete analysis of why UVCE over other private colleges. Getting a good rank in KCET and still being in a dilemma of college and course choices is obvious.
But here I’ll tell you the key points that will drag you to this prosperous 108-year-old institution.
“If you want to finish your engineering degree for less than 2 lakhs total and land the same job as someone paying 20 lakhs at a private college, UVCE is the answer, an ultimate choice”.
1. FEES STRUCTURE
In the era where education has become premium costly, colleges charge lakhs together in fees. Even after that, there are hidden fees of extra 20, 30, up to 50k such as development fees, exam fees, lab fees, etc.
You may have a doubt: "Fees is fixed by KEA for all colleges, private or govt. or aided."
Yes, KEA does fix the fees for all colleges, but private colleges cannot simply run on that amount of fees. Hence they take additional fees as development, lab, exam fees etc., depending on different colleges.
But here at UVCE, as it is a Government college, the fees for this academic year was just 49,600 rupees, whereas for other unaided private institutions it was 1,12,000/1,21,000—more than double than that of UVCE’s fees structure.
Let me tell you one thing: not a single rupee extra was collected as development fees or lab fees here at UVCE. Yes, sem end fees of 2,500 rupees will be collected only at the sem end. That would be directly between you and the university.
UVCE is the epitome for “less investment maximum returns”. Later in this article, I’ll also give a short glimpse on placement where you’ll easily understand what I meant by the above statement.
The COMED-K Comparison
This was the KCET fees structure, but all students do not enter through KCET; they also enter through COMED-K to other private institutions.
COMED-K fees was 2,81,000 for this academic year, despite this extra 20-30k of additional hidden fees. On this basis, your 4-year B.Tech program will cost you anywhere between 5 lakhs up to 12 lakhs.
This is just the tuition/college fees. Hostel fees range from 1 lakh per year up to 2.5 lakh per year in some colleges. Collectively it will cost you in the range of 10-20 lakhs rupees, and that’s a huge investment.
UVCE plays the game here, just 2 lakhs fees for 4 years. Hostel fees is also way less, around 45,000 per year.
Imagine finishing your entire Engineering in just 6 lakh rupees including hostel fees.
Worrying about placements?
Let me give you an insight from the official data. UVCE has recorded 86.14% for the 2025 batch.
I’ll also give you the actual branch-wise placement rate of UVCE. There are in total 6 branches: CSE, ISE, AI&DS, ECE, EEE, CIVIL & MECH.
| Branch | Placement % |
|---|---|
| MECHANICAL | 84% |
| CIVIL | 97% |
| ELECTRICAL (EEE) | 84% |
| ELECTRONICS (ECE) | 83% |
| COMPUTER SCIENCE | 92% |
| INFORMATION SCIENCE | 90% |
| AI & DS | 72% |
| TOTAL | 86.14% |
*AI & DS branch was introduced in 2021. Hence this was the first batch too.
Strength of all branches combined is 760 per academic year and number of companies that visited were around 400. Some companies like SAP Labs alone hired 26 students.
Average placement is also high especially in technical branches, it goes up to 15LPA. The highest placement last year was 28.5 LPA; in the year 2023, the highest was 53 LPA.
PESU, MSRIT, and BMSCE also have similar average packages. But placement trends are much more better in UVCE this current (ongoing) year, around 5 students have got around 40 LPA.
Academics & Merit
UVCE is an autonomous Public State University (with a University title). Syllabus has been refined, new syllabus is being taught according to the IIT Model. YES. IIT Model. State Cabinet announced the same on September 27, 2024.
One more reason why UVCE is the best amongst all colleges even when compared to RVCE, MSRIT, PESU, BMSCE.
There are no management or COMED-K seats in UVCE. Purely all seats are given to the KEA (Govt.). Hence here admission is solely based on merit. All the students that enter into are meritorious, intelligent and skilled. Hence such a positive and competitive environment is shaped automatically leading to the best soothing place for learning.
Why I chose UVCE over MSRIT/BMSCE/PESU?
CSE, ECE, CIVIL in UVCE have 120 seats. ISE, AI & DS, EEE have 60 seats respectively. MECH has 160 seats.
Inference from this is: Firstly less crowd and chaos.
Second, when you see MSRIT the CSE seats itself are 360. PESU 720. BMSCE 1200 seats just alone in CSE.
Practically analyzing, question arises naturally, will 720 students be placed alone from CSE? Obviously not. Hence placement rates will automatically decrease. UVCE has an edge in that case.
Some insights on Campus Life
UVCE is located at KR Circle, nearest metro station Sir M Vishweshwaraiah Central College is just 200 meters from the college. It’s an 108 years old institution built in 1917 when the Bharat Ratna Sir M Vishweshwaraiah was Diwan of Mysore.
Yes the infrastructure is a bit poor, labs are old as well as the equipments, campus is not that big. There’s a library containing more than 1 lakh books, and a Nandini outlet for snacks, refreshments.
Teaching & Routine
Coming to teaching part, Self study is the main key. No spoon feeding is done. PDF’s, notes, etc are sent but that isn’t enough. You have to work on self learning and skill improvement. Doesn’t matter what is the source, it may be youtube, google or any other source.
All in all, Self Study has to be cultivated here. Teachers are super friendly, time table is not hectic, yeah sometimes extra classes are scheduled to complete the syllabus. You will get a lot of free time, only thing is the proper utilization of time.
Generally college begins at 8:50 a.m. – 1:20 p.m.. Lab days it may extend up to 4:30 p.m.
If you have the urge to learn, then you are most suitable to this college. If you are the one looking for luxurious campus life, full enjoyment, then this isn’t right place for you.
Hence choose UVCE as a beacon of hope and not by force. So now after reading this, I hope you have got some intuition on why I said, UVCE is the epitome for “less investment maximum returns”.
